MUHWA 96-Well PCR Tube Rack — 0.2mL, 8x12 Grid
If you run PCR plates regularly, you know the drill: you've got your master mix, your template DNA, your primers — and 96 tubes scattered across the bench in four different foam floats. Then you spend ten minutes squinting at tube caps trying to remember which one is A7 and which is B7. This rack fixes that problem at the source.
The layout is exactly an 8-row by 12-column grid, lettered A through H and numbered 1 through 12 — same as every PCR plate and thermal cycler block you've ever used. Load your sample tubes into the rack in the same positions they'll occupy on the plate, and the transfer step becomes mechanical: row A from rack to row A on plate, no mental mapping required. It sounds trivial but in a lab that runs 20 plates a day, the time and error reduction add up fast.
What fits in it
The wells are sized for 0.2mL PCR tubes — individual tubes and 8-tube strips both work. Individual tubes seat snugly without wobbling; 8-strip tubes drop into a full row and stay aligned. The well depth is calibrated so the tube cap sits just above the rack surface, which means you can open and close caps without removing tubes from the rack — convenient when you're adding template to multiple tubes sequentially. The rack also accepts 0.2mL PCR plate strip caps for temporary storage during setup.
Material and durability
Molded from autoclavable polypropylene. It goes through a 121°C autoclave cycle without warping — we've tested this at 15psi for 20 minutes, repeated ten cycles, and the grid stays true. PP resists the common lab solvents you might splash on it: ethanol, isopropanol, bleach solution. Won't craze or crack from repeated exposure. The material is also PCR-compatible — no leachable plasticizers that could inhibit your Taq.
On the bench
The rack has a low center of gravity — it doesn't tip over when half-loaded, which matters when you're working with 40 tubes on one side. The base has small rubber feet that keep it from sliding on smooth bench surfaces. Stackable if you need to store multiple racks — the underside has recesses that interlock with the rims of the rack below. Color is natural PP translucent white — you can see tube contents through the rack wall in good light.

Who uses it
Core facilities running high-throughput genotyping. QPCR labs processing 384-well plates (use two racks side by side). Academic labs where multiple grad students share a thermal cycler — each student gets their own rack, clearly labeled. The rack also works as a room-temperature storage organizer for aliquoted primers and probes — the grid coordinates match your lab notebook entries.
